About Me
I am a Thanatologist (EOLD), recognized by the End-of-Life Doula Association of Canada (EOLDAC). I graduated with a 4 year Bachelor of Arts Degree Majoring in Psychology (STFX University, 2007). I also completed Post Graduate Certification in End-of-Life Services (Douglas College, 2022).

I have more than 15 years experience working in mental health research and field settings with extensive applied experience in cognitive and physical disability, and long-standing practical work with individuals throughout their lifespan.

My area of interest is Disenfranchised Grief. This type of grief is often not openly acknowledged, socially validated, or publicly mourned. In short, although the individual is experiencing a grief reaction, there is no social recognition that the person has a right to grieve or a claim for social sympathy or support (Doka, 2008).
A few examples of Disenfranchised Grief are losses related to estrangement from family, sexual health, mental or physical impairment, job loss, relationship breakdown, incarceration, suicide, and, substance use.
